Working with Northumberland Strategic Partnership, we have completed a large scale and permanent illumination of the Royal Border Bridge in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland.
2009 marked the 150th anniversary of the death of the great railway engineer Robert Stephenson, who designed and constructed the iconic 28-arch viaduct spanning the River Tweed, the illumination is an appropriate recognition of this engineering feat and complimentary to the dramatic masonry structure, accentuating it's tall arched spans across the river and town.
Programming allows the illumination to follow the path of trains across the bridge and change throughout the year to reflect special events. LED technology was selected to permit animation and colour change across the 300m long structure.
This technology is extremely efficient with high light output in respect of power consumption, and very low maintenance which is essential when installing luminaires in very remote and inaccessible areas over the river.
